Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new curriculum for social and emotional learning that would be used starting in the 2025-26 school year, and eventually affect all high school students in the district. We believe that input from families and community members is essential to the process of adopting this new curriculum.
Earlier in June 2025, we provided several opportunities to review the proposed curriculum. While those opportunities have passed, anyone interested can still view limited samples online and provide their feedback by June 30. Everyone is welcome to provide feedback, even if they do not currently have a child enrolled in a Battle Ground school. The feedback will help inform the school board's decision.
Next steps
The school board will vote on the proposed curriculum. The first reading of the proposed curriculum will be during the board of directors meeting on July 28, 2025. Get meeting information.
Why this curriculum matters
The proposed curriculum would build on the social-emotional learning already in place for primary and middle school students since 2023. It aims to support high schoolers with essential life skills such as kindness, respect, communication, collaboration, self-confidence and adaptability. Past surveys of students, parents/guardians and staff members have pointed to the need for schools to teach character education and a variety of social and emotional skills.
If approved, the items would be purchased using funds from a grant that the district received in 2023.
