Battle Ground High School seniors Charles Weiner and Jeremiah Norwood are reaching new heights. Last year, the pair was selected for the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps' prestigious pilot training program. Only 200 students are accepted nationwide. Over the summer, each student logged nearly 60 hours of flight time and many hours in flight simulators and classroom study at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the end, Norwood and Weiner each completed their federal private pilot certification and earned private pilot licenses.
The two balance their studies between the AFJROTC program at Battle Ground High School and the Aviation Program at Cascadia Technical Academy. Their achievement reflects the broad horizons and real-world career pathways made possible through career and technical education programs.
