Election results as of Nov. 5 are showing that 52.53% of voters have approved Proposition 11, the levy to provide additional funding for Battle Ground schools. While votes will continue to be counted in the coming days, the levy is on track to pass. The results will be certified on Nov. 24.
Beginning in 2027, the levy will provide critical funding for schools after two consecutive years of significant budget cuts. The levy will provide more money for student safety, teaching and learning, student well-being, job readiness, smaller class sizes, special education and student activities. The district will begin receiving levy money in April 2027, and will work to restore some of the previously eliminated programs and positions for the 2027-28 school year.
Even with an approved levy, Battle Ground taxpayers are still projected to have the lowest K-12 school tax rate in Southwest Washington.
Said Superintendent Shelly Whitten, “I am grateful to our community for the support of their students and schools. While we recognize that we cannot restore everything that was lost in budget cuts, this levy will allow us to begin rebuilding important student support and programs, while maintaining local decision-making and continuing our commitment to preparing students for their future.”
Decisions about the use of levy funds will be guided by the priorities that families, staff members, students and community members shared during last year's budget reduction process and planning process for the levy. The district also will work to meet the goals and objectives of its strategic plan. Learn more about how levy dollars will be used.
Battle Ground Public Schools is grateful to everyone who participated in listening sessions, took the time to learn about school funding challenges and provided their input on budget priorities. We also appreciate the staff, families and community members whose ongoing support helps students succeed. We remain dedicated to connecting every student to a successful future.
